The recycling centres are public facilities, controlled access, for the waste collection, especially large as monkeys, appliances, wood, tires, scraps, garden scraps among others, as well as recyclable waste such as plastics, paper/cardboard, glass, … etc.
On the economic side, Ecocentres must allow municipalities to recover costs due to the diversion of valuable materials, which would otherwise occupy landfill space, with high economic and environmental costs.
Ecocenters can reduce the costs of collecting Monos, leading residents to deliver their waste to these locations, avoiding door-to-door collection as is currently done by most municipalities.
The collection solution through Ecocenters is widely used in Central European countries, even serving as a hotspot for the logistics system in rural areas (Austria, Sweden,… etc.).
ECOGESTUS has already carried out several Projects for Waste Transfer Units and Ecocenters. One of these projects can be consulted on this video.
